Sam Levitz Furniture has leased the former distribution center for American Home Furniture near West Prince Road and Interstate 10.
The 215,000 square foot center, 2020 W. Prince Road, will be used for distribution and clearance, said Greg Furrier, a principal with PICOR Commercial Real Estate Services. The lease began April 1.
Furrier, along with PICOR's Rob Glaser, brokered the 10-year lease, which also has an option to buy.
"It just worked really well for them," Furrier said. "It's a huge facility, and it has a really specialized racking system in it made for the furniture industry."
There is also about 40,000 square feet that can be used as retail space.
Leasing such a large space is challenging, particularly in a down economy where few businesses are expanding and vacancies are rising. But Furrier said there was quite a bit of interest in the distribution center because of its proximity to Interstate 10 and the Tucson Mall.
A message left with Sam Levitz Furniture was not returned.
Furrier said he thought the lease would make Levitz's operations a bit smoother because of the size of the space and the ability to centralize.
Sam Levitz Furniture has three showrooms in the Tucson area: 3750 W. Orange Grove Road, 3430 E. 36th St. and 100 North Pantano Road.
American Home Furniture announced the closure of its three Tucson locations in November and has been liquidating inventory. Furrier is working to lease its two other former locations.
